Senator Faisal Subzwari of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has rebuffed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s aspirations to become the Prime Minister, asserting that the recent electoral outcomes have dashed Bilawal’s ambitions.
Responding to remarks made by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticizing his party, Subzwari highlighted the pivotal role MQM-P could play in the upcoming presidential and National Assembly Speaker’s elections, underscoring the PPP’s potential reliance on their support. Cautioning against escalating tensions, Subzwari urged Bilawal not to exacerbate the situation to a point of mutual embarrassment, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue between the two parties.
Addressing doubts raised by Bilawal regarding MQM-P’s electoral success in Karachi, Subzwari pointed out that while PPP candidates secured victories in certain constituencies, MQM-P’s dominance in others reflects the diverse political landscape of the city. Subzwari also recalled instances where PPP’s leadership, including Bilawal’s father Asif Ali Zardari, sought MQM-P’s cooperation, particularly during efforts to pass a no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He noted that Bilawal himself was party to the agreements made during these negotiations.
Asserting the legitimacy of MQM-P’s electoral victories, Subzwari challenged any party with grievances to address them through proper channels, such as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Sindh High Court (SHC). The exchange underscores the political tensions and power dynamics shaping Pakistan’s political landscape.
