PML-N Senator Saadia Abbasi on Tuesday raised objections during a session of the Upper House of Parliament, stating that a resolution in favor of establishing military courts was passed on Monday with only around 90 members present, deviating from the agenda and criticizing it as undemocratic.
She said that the Supreme Court’s decision was not a personal matter for the judges but in accordance with the Constitution. The PML-N senator condemned the resolution and called on members to strongly criticize it. She requested the withdrawal of a Senate resolution urging the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision on military court trials.
In a point of order, she criticised the resolution’s passage as contrary to the spirit of the constitution and democracy, asserting that the Supreme Court’s verdict on military courts was in Pakistan’s best interest. Abbassi also urged the caretaker government to enhance law and order in Balochistan and address the repatriation of Afghan nationals through diplomatic channels.
