The Sentar Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs today visited the Korangi Fishing Harbour Authority. The Committee was warmly welcome by the Managing Director of the Korangi Fishing Harbour Authority, Masood Abbas Rizvi. The Senate Committee chaired a very important meeting at the KOFH under the chair of Chairperson, Senator Rubina Khalid.
The MD Masood Abbas Rizvi briefed the committee about the overall functions, performance and issues of the Authority. The Committee raised the questions of the facilities being provided by the Authority and budget allocation. The Committee was apprised that the Authority had been providing basic berthing facilities and food supply to the vessels.
Furthermore, the Managing Director informed the committee that they had been facing budget constraints issues and the budget allocated for the financial year 2023 was 75 million rupees including salaries of the employees.
The authority being service provider had provided 702 meters jetty facilities for the year 2022-2023 and had generated revenue of Rs 136210364 for the year 2023.The issues of daily wages, contractual employees, the licensed and unlicensed vessels were discuseed in the meeting.
The chairperson Senator Rubina expressing her concerns over the role of Authority and the Managing Director, directed the Managing Director to play his effective role to address the issues of employees and ensure the basic facilities to be provided to the local population.Later on, the Senate Standing Committee also visited the Fishing harbour. The Committee included, other members included Senator Nisar Khuhro, Senator Danesh Kumar, Senator Dost Muhammad Khan and other members.
