THERE was sheer jubilation and literally every Pakistani either at home or abroad was over the moon on Wednesday when Greenshirts outclassed Blackcaps in the semi-final of T-Twenty World Cup repeating in fact the scenes of 1992 world cup semi-final when our team led by Imran Khan had in the similar fashion reached the semis against all odds and then finally lifted the trophy for the very first time.
The win in the semi-final has raised the expectations that the country is poised again to become champion in this format of the game for the second time, the first one was back in 2009 under the captaincy of Younis Khan.
As regards the semi-final triumph, it was indeed a classic and clinical performance on the part of national team as in every department be it bowling, fielding and batting, the team remained far ahead of New Zealand.
There was a lot of criticism on openers Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan as they were consistently failing to deliver at the top but they really clicked at the right moment and when it mattered the most and scored half centuries each. This really made the chase of 153 really very easy.
The team management especially the coaches deserve appreciation for keeping their faith on the two openers and backing them.
Now the Greenshirts is just one game away and the way the team has made a comeback in a very strong manner in the last couple of matches, we have no doubt in saying that they can outclass any team in the final now.
They only need to repeat the class and spirit of the semi-final. Given the current political situation and the challenges compounded by devastating floods, the win definitely will bring more smiles on the faces of otherwise distressed people who are not much happy about what is going on in the country.
This game of cricket unites the entire nation which is need of the hour to take the country in the right direction.
