Release of political detainees demanded

In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has denounced the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails of India and the territory and demanded their immediate release. The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that India had kept thousands of Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and youth in jails under false cases. He added that their illegal detention was being prolonged under one pretext or the other.
He said that the illegally detained Hurriyat leaders included Muhammad Yasin Malik, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Muhammad Yaseen Atai, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Ameer Hamza, Maulana Sarjan Barkati, Peer Saifullah, Maulana Mushtaq Veeri, Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz and Advocate Zahid Ali and they should be released immediately.—KMS
