The monsoon season has concluded in Punjab, with several districts receiving heavy rainfall, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said Thursday.
Rawalpindi recorded the highest seasonal rainfall at 1,505 millimetres, while Lahore received 1,316mm, Sialkot 1,256mm and Gujranwala 1,161mm.
Jhelum received 935mm, followed by Gujrat at 865mm, Mandi Bahauddin 810mm, Narowal 786mm and Murree 757mm.
Despite the heavy rains, Punjab did not experience any major flooding in its rivers, the PDMA said. However, overflowing Bhid and Dek drains caused flooding in parts of Sheikhupura, affecting 58 villages in Ferozewala and Muridke.
The flooding impacted 83 mouzas and 43,188 acres of land, while 1,215 houses were affected.
Rain-related incidents across the province claimed 65 lives and injured 382 people during the season. The rains also damaged 224 houses and resulted in the deaths of 21 livestock animals, according to official figures.
The PDMA said advance preparations and the availability of drainage machinery helped authorities clear accumulated water promptly despite the intensity of rainfall.
The authority said compensation was being provided to families whose crops and houses were damaged by flooding in Sheikhupura under the Punjab government’s policy.
Meanwhile, water flows in all rivers across the province have returned to normal. The PDMA said rivers, dams and barrages continue to be monitored regularly, while its control room remains operational around the clock to deal with any emergency.
