ISLAMABAD – YouTuber Rajab Butt was brutally attacked by a group of lawyers while appearing for interim bail proceedings. The assault left him severely injured, with eyewitnesses reporting blood streaming from his jaw and mouth, and back.
Amid outrage, Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjhar expressed deep regret over attack, calling it a matter of serious concern. He confirmed that he has spoken to Chief Justice about the incident and stresssed that what transpired in court was not the work of lawyers, noting that court police were present during the attack.
Lanjhar clarified that court police are tasked with bringing in and taking away the accused, as he condemned the assault on Rajab Butt, calling it deeply regrettable. The attack was sudden and unprovoked as Rajab Butt fell to the ground and required immediate medical attention, while police and court staff swiftly intervened to regain control of the chaotic situation.
The shocking assault raised serious questions about security and law enforcement inside court premises, leaving citizens and social media users stunned.
Butt was assaulted by group of lawyers during his court appearance, leaving him seriously injured. His lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, revealed that despite repeated attempts to stop the attack, it continued relentlessly, and Butt was harmed right in front of them.
Blasphemy Case
The attack comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Butt over blasphemy-related allegations. He launched perfume branded “295”, referencing Section 295 of Pakistan’s blasphemy law, which triggered widespread backlash and accusations that the branding mocked religious sentiments.
A case was registered against him under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which criminalizes insulting religious beliefs. The complaint was filed by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan leader Haider Ali Shah Gillani. If convicted, Butt could face up to 10 years in prison.
He later issued apology from Masjid-e-Haram in Makkah while performing Umrah. In the video, he maintained that he had not acted intentionally, claimed a word in the controversial content was edited, and asked people to “cleanse their hearts” toward him.
The violent courtroom incident raised serious questions about security and law enforcement inside court premises, and sparked outrage on social media. Citizens are calling for strict action against the assailants to ensure justice and prevent such attacks in the future.
Deported from UK
Rajab was deported from UK after authorities cancelled his visa over undisclosed legal cases in Pakistan. Once a UK visa holder until 2027, Butt was put on a morning flight back to Pakistan.
The social media influencer, known for his luxury lifestyle, family vlogs, and polarizing antics, boasts over 8.2 million YouTube subscribers. He has vowed to challenge the Home Office’s decision and appeal in London.
Butt had previously faced legal trouble in Pakistan for promoting betting apps, sparking a dramatic exit from the UK.
