Rain update for Quetta, Gwadar, Balochistan

QUTTA – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rain-wind/thunderstorms for Quetta, Gwadar and parts of Balochistan on Wednesday evening/night, Thursday and Friday.

As per the synoptic situation, a strong westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of Pakistan on February 29 (Thursday). It may grip most parts of the country on March 01 (Friday) and persist till March 02 (Saturday).

Under these conditions, cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms and snowfall over the hills are expected in northern/southern Balochistan on Wednesday evening/night.

On Thursday and Friday, heavy rains with wind-thunderstorms and snowfall over the hills are expected in Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah. Isolated hailstorms are also likely during the period.

Heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding in local nullahs of Gwadar, Ketch, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Dalbandin, Khuzdar, Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday and Friday (February 29-March 01).

Quetta’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 03-05 degrees Celsius on Thursday and 04-06 C on Friday.

Gwadar’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 17-19 C on Thursday and 18-20 C on Friday.

Meanwhile, Quetta, Gwadar and parts of Balochistan received rainfall of varying intensities during the last 24 hours. Jiwani received 137 mm rain, Gwadar 125 mm, Quetta, Sibbi and Pasni 02 mm each and Khuzdar 01 mm. Heavy rains disrupted routine life by causing flash flooding in local nullahs and urban flooding in Gwadar and other residential localities in the region.

Kalat remained the coldest place in the province where temperature dropped to 02 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 61 per cent.

In Quetta, minimum temperature was recorded at 03 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 81 per cent.

In Gwadar, minimum temperature was recorded at 17 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 90 per cent.
