Rain update for Lahore, Punjab; wet spell to continue

LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rains and isolated hailstorms for Lahore and parts of Punjab on Monday evening/night and Tuesday.

According to the synoptic situation, westerly wave is affecting western and upper parts of Pakistan. It will likely to strengthen during next 12 hours.

Under these conditions, more intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Kasur on Monday evening/night. Moderate to heavy falls and isolated hailstorms are expected at few places during the period. More heavy rain-windstorm/thunderstorm and snowfall/hailstorm are likely in Murree, Galyat and surroundings.

On Tuesday, more rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Kasur. Hailstorm is also likely at isolated places during the period. More rain-wind/thunderstorm and snowfall/hailstorm is likely in Murree, Galyat and surroundings.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Murree and Galyat from Monday to Tuesday. The possibility of landslides in Murree and Galyat cannot be ruled out during the forecast period.

Lahore’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 11-13 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 10-12 C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, parts of Punjab received rainfall of varying intensities during the last 24 hours.

Murree remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 01 C below freezing. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 83 per cent.

In Lahore, minimum temperature was recorded at 14 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 66 per cent.
