Rain update for Islamabad, Pakistan: Wet spell continues

More intermittent rains and gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Friday evening and night.

Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in the hilly areas of the country during the period.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave prevails over most upper parts of Pakistan, which will persist during the next 24 hours.

Under these conditions, more intermittent rains and gusty winds are expected in the Twin Cities, upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday evening and night. Moderate to heavy rain/snow may also occur in Kashmir. Cold and dry weather is likely elsewhere in the country.

On Saturday and Sunday, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, freezing weather is likely in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Balochistan.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli and Rawalakot.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause flash flooding in local nullah/streams of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while there are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas during the period. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the period.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02°C and 04°C on Saturday and between 01°C and 03°C on Sunday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C on Saturday and between 04°C and 06°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, widespread rain with snowfall over the hills occurred across Pakistan during the last 24 hours.

Kalat remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 12°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Ziarat was recorded at -11°C, in Quetta at -08°C, in Parachinar at -07°C, in Gupis at -05°C, in Kalam and Malam Jabba at -04°C, and in Leh at -03°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 05°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 100 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 08°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 88 per cent.
