Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Weather: More rain, snowfall likely

More rain is likely in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday evening and night, with occasional breaks.

Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in the upper districts during the period.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave prevails over most upper parts of Pakistan, which will persist during the next 24 hours.

Under these conditions, more rain with snowfall over the hills is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, and Nowshera on Friday evening and night, with occasional breaks.

On Saturday and Sunday, cold and dry weather is likely in most districts of the province. Freezing and partly cloudy weather is expected in the upper districts.

Rain/snowfall may continue to cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Shangla.

Flash flooding is likely in local nullah/streams of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while there are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.

Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02°C and 04°C on Saturday and between 01°C and 03°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, widespread rain with snowfall over the hills occurred across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Parachinar remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 07°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Kalam and Malam Jabba was recorded at -04°C, in Dir at -01°C, and in Chitral at 0°C.

In Peshawar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 05°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 79 per cent.
