ISLAMABAD – Heavy rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has prompted authorities to declare a rain emergency as downpours affected several areas and caused water to accumulate in low-lying locations.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) managing director said a rain emergency has been imposed in Rawalpindi, while field officers have been mobilised to monitor the situation.
WASA teams and heavy machinery have also been deployed in low-lying areas to deal with rainwater.
Officials said water flow in Nullah Lai remained within normal levels. The water level was recorded at five feet at Katarian and two feet at the Gawalmandi Bridge.
Meanwhile, the weather turned pleasant late at night as winds brought a drop in temperatures in Lahore. The current temperature in the city was recorded at 27°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C and the minimum to remain around 25°C.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further rain during the next 24 hours.
Rain also affected several cities across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with strong winds and hail reported in some areas. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Kohat, Karak, Mianwali and Dunyapur experienced heavy showers, resulting in water accumulation in low-lying areas.
In Kundian, rainwater entered homes, while streets in several localities were left flooded. Other areas, including Jhang, Chashma, Dera Ismail Khan, Kacha Gujarat and Pailan, also received rainfall.
The weather also disrupted electricity supplies in several areas after feeders tripped, causing inconvenience for residents.
