Abdul Rahim Janoo, President of the Memon Leadership Forum (Global) and former Senior Vice President of FPCCI, has called on the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to impose a five-year ban on cricket and instead promote and support football. Janoo, who is also the Chairman of Baba Farid Free Eye Camps, expressed his belief that fostering football in areas like Lyari (Karachi) could lead to the emergence of international players comparable to Maradona, Messi, and Ronaldo.
He lamented that football is often seen as a sport for the poor, while cricket is viewed as the pastime of English aristocrats, leading to significant wastage of time and resources.
Janoo criticized cricket for being a slow-paced game that frequently ends in no result or defeat for Pakistan, noting that cricket players receive millions of rupees monthly. He argued that this is unethical for a country heavily burdened by loans.
In addition, (14) Officials are also included, whose huge salaries are burden on country’s exchequer, which is generated by people’s tax money and not in favor of such huge Loan taking country like Pakistan. Further, peoples are appointed on Non merit base.
Just like, Developed Countries, we also need to get rid of this lazy and boring game and wind up the Cricket Board and its huge funds to be allocated for the promotion of Football game and relieve Cricket Officials who are taking huge salaries. Country like Pakistan, which is already facing huge debts from IMF and Other Financial Institutions cannot afford this game and wastage of time is another factor.
He added the MLF supports Football game and will soon organize a Football Tournament. Chief Patron MLF, AqeelKarimDhedhi also assured his full support for success of this Tournament. We will invite international player to inaugurate MLF FOOTBALL LEAGUE.
He was hopeful that Government of Pakistan may consider his proposal to promote Football. If Government takes such decision, we will be able to form a good Pakistani Football team and if required, we will also invite international Football coaches to come to Pakistan for the training of local players.
