Echo of non-payment of pensions and salaries to PBC pensioners and employees was heard in upper house of the Parliament Tuesday evening, with categorical emphasis by honorable senators that state broadcaster must get funds from the state

Talking about Radio Pakistan’s financial difficulties in the Upper House, Senator Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui has said he has raised this matter with Minister of State for Finance Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha. He made it clear that radio is not a commercial entity in any part of the world. It is not a money-making enterprise like the Pakistan International Airlines or the Pakistan Steel Mills. He said radio always draws funds from the government exchequer. He said even the British Broadcasting Corporation receives funding from the state and collects a license fee.

Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui further said that the licence fee for Radio Pakistan had long been abolished in Pakistan and now government funding is the only source remaining with the state broadcaster. He emphasised on evolving a mechanism to address the financial woes of serving .
