ISLAMABAD – Rabiul Awwal moon has not been sighted in Lahore, Islamabad and several other cities on Wednesday and Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) will be observed on September 17  Tuesday.

Ruet chairman said there have been no reports of moon sightings from any part of the country, and that 1st Rabiul-Awwal will be on Friday, September 6, and the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal will be on Tuesday, September 17.

Muslims are waiting for Eid Miladun-Nabi,the annual festival marking birth date of Prophet Muhammad SAW, and the country’s apex moon sighting committee will announce the start of third Islamic month.

Rabiul Awwal celebration features acts of charity, emphasising Prophet Muhammad’s values of compassion and generosity. Festivities actually differ by region and culture, including processions, special meals, and traditional events.

Why Muslims Celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi?

Muslims from Sufi and Barelvi traditions celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi to honor birth of Prophet Muhammad during Rabiul-Awwal.

The celebration reportedly first started in Egypt under the Fatimids, includes prayers, processions, and community gatherings.

As majority of Muslims celebrate the event, some Muslim groups reject these celebrations, calling it Biddat or innovation, arguing they were not practiced in Arabs.

Has Pakistan announced September 16 as Public Holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi 2024?
