Qatari Mediators Reach Tehran to Revive US-Iran Talks

Efforts are being made to restart the stalled ceasefire negotiations between Iran and the United States after recent US airstrikes targeted multiple locations across five Iranian provinces.

According to reports, Qatari mediators have travelled to Iran for meetings with senior Iranian officials in an effort to pave the way for a fresh round of negotiations and help ease tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The renewed diplomatic push follows US strikes that, according to Iran’s Health Ministry, killed 14 people and injured 78 others. The attacks reportedly hit airports, logistics facilities, maritime surveillance assets, and railway infrastructure in northern Iran.

Iranian officials say the latest military action has further eroded trust between the two countries, particularly after President Donald Trump’s remarks at the NATO summit in Türkiye, where he declared the existing memorandum of understanding (MoU) effectively void. Iranian authorities now argue that any future agreement cannot rely on mutual trust but must instead be based on reciprocal commitments.

Officials in Tehran also accuse Trump of abandoning his earlier pledge to avoid military action during the funeral ceremonies of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. They say the US launched strikes while Khamenei was being laid to rest in the city of Mashhad.

President Trump, meanwhile, said Washington had agreed to resume talks after Iran requested the continuation of negotiations. However, he also stated that the ceasefire between the two countries was “over,” casting uncertainty over prospects for renewed diplomacy.
