LAHORE – The Punjab government has decided to introduce a new activity-based learning system for primary schools’ students, with redesigned textbooks planned for classes up to Grade 5 from the 2027 academic session.
The officials of the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PECTA) said work on the new textbooks has already begun in line with the revised curriculum.
The initiative will mark the first time that Punjab introduces a dedicated activity-based textbook system for students up to Grade 5. Under the new approach, greater emphasis will be placed on learning through practical activities rather than relying primarily on conventional teaching methods.
According to the officials, the new system is aimed at moving students away from rote learning and encouraging creativity, critical thinking and practical skills from an early age.
The activity-based textbooks will include learning exercises designed to involve students directly in the educational process. The approach is expected to give children more opportunities to understand concepts through practical work and connect classroom lessons with situations in everyday life.
The officials said the revised textbooks are being developed according to the new curriculum and will be designed to make primary-level education more engaging and interactive.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen students’ ability to understand and apply knowledge instead of simply memorising information for examinations.
The preparation of the new textbooks is currently underway, with the authorities aiming to complete the process ahead of their introduction.
The new activity-based teaching system will formally be implemented across Punjab from the start of the 2027 academic session, according to PECTA officials.
