The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported 53 deaths during rain-related incidents during this monsoon.
According to the latest report unveiled by PDMA on Friday, 322 people were injured across Punjab so far this season.
It report stated that the provincial government has directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for those injured in rain-related accidents.
PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said safeguarding lives and property and providing timely relief to affected residents remain the government’s highest priorities. He added that compensation would be provided to families affected by rain and flood damage under the government’s relief policy.
He urged the public to exercise caution during the ongoing monsoon season, advising parents to keep children away from rain drains, low-lying areas, rivers and canals to prevent accidents.
The PDMA stated that its control room continues to monitor weather and flood conditions around the clock, while all relevant departments remain on high alert to respond to any emergency.
According to the fact sheet, widespread rainfall was recorded in several districts over the past 24 hours. Rawalpindi’s Mohammadi Chowk received the highest rainfall at 65mm, followed by Khushab and Gujranwala with 64mm each. Joharabad recorded 58mm, Sargodha 57mm and Chiniot 33mm.
Other rainfall measurements included 29mm in Narowal, 20mm in Mandi Bahauddin, 18mm in Okara, 15mm in Sheikhupura, 12mm in Hafizabad and 10mm in Faisalabad.
Despite the downpours, PDMA said rainwater was drained quickly due to advance planning, the availability of machinery and coordinated efforts led by the Punjab government.
