In preparation for the general elections, the Punjab Police submitted a budget request of a staggering Rs190 million, the sources privy to the development said on Friday.

The sources said that the substantial amount is intended to cover expenses for meals, beverages, petrol, and other necessary items related to the security duties during the electoral process.

“An extensive survey has been conducted, and the polling station scheme has also been forwarded to the Election Commission. In a strategic move, a dedicated control room has been established at the Inspector General’s office to facilitate effective election monitoring,” they said, explaining the measures for security for the elections.

They said that an Additional Inspector General of Police would head the control room while 15 additional data entry operators were appointed there in the control room.

Their primary responsibility, the sources said, would be to compile comprehensive reports on any incidents of violation occurring during the political processions and the rallies.

The police officials disclosed that inspectors in all districts were appointed as focal persons within the control rooms.

“These focal persons will be responsible for providing timely reports on various aspects of the electoral process,” said the sources, adding that on the day of the election, a significant workforce comprising 130,000 young individuals would be deployed to fulfill their assigned duties.
