Punjab on high alert as monsoon rains start today

The Meteorological Department has announced the possibility of rains this week starting from today Wednesday. As per the details, the upcoming monsoon rains probably start on June 26 and continue till July 1.

Moreover, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding more than normal upcoming monsoon rains. Talking to the media, NDMA officials have expressed the fear of floods in Sindh Punjab. Furthermore, Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory regarding monsoon rains this year.

According to PDMA, monsoon rains are likely to start from the first week of July. More than normal rains are expected in some districts of Sindh, including Karachi. PDMA highlighted the expected rainfall patterns in Karachi for July: First Week of July: 30 to 50 mm of rain; Second Week of July: 35 to 75 mm of rain; Third Week of July: 25 to 35mm of rain; and Fourth Week of July: 45 to 75 mm of rain. PDMA urged authorities to take necessary precautions and prepare for potential emergencies regarding the upcoming monsoon rains.—NNI
