Water flows in drains linked to the River Ravi are gradually rising, with moderate flooding reported at several locations.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, a moderate flood was recorded at Jalala, where Nala Ojh was carrying 39,900 cusecs of water.
Moderate flooding was also reported in Nala Dek, with a flow of 7,720 cusecs, and Nala Kakkar Dek, where the flow stood at 16,487 cusecs.
The PDMA said all rivers and adjoining drains across Punjab were being continuously monitored on the directives of Chief Minister Punjab, while district administrations and relevant departments were closely tracking the situation.
PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said the authority’s central control room and emergency control rooms in all districts were on high alert. He said relevant institutions had been directed to take precautionary measures in anticipation of a possible flood situation.
Jappa urged citizens to exercise caution during the rainy season and stay away from rivers, canals and drains. He specifically advised the public against bathing in waterways and called on citizens to follow official instructions in case of an emergency.
PDMA said it was maintaining close surveillance of the situation and taking all necessary measures to safeguard lives and property.
