Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Department on Thursday fired 164 doctors who were absent from their duties for a long period of time. These doctors of grade 17 were not attending their duties even for eight years.
The absentees have been warned through notice and advertisements published in newspapers. But they never replied or joined their respective duties.
These doctors have been sacked as per the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act 2006 based on the reports compiled by their respective hospital medical superintendents.
While talking about the dismissal of 164 Medical Officers, Secretary PSH&D said, “Regular absentees of doctors in Government hospitals will not be tolerated at all.
Medical officers are bound to abide by the rules of PEEDA act and the moral responsibility of being a medical specialist. Action has only been taken under PEEDA Act after repeated warnings.
