Provincial Secretary for Human Rights, Punjab, Dr. Shoaib Akbar has said that the Punjab government is committed to protect farmers’ rights and to procure last grain of wheat from growers at the supporting price of Rs.1400 per kg while the Punjab government has released Rs.144 billion for procurement of wheat from the province during this year.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting at District Complex Hafizabad, today, held to review wheat procurement campaign, hoarding and steps being taken by the administration against illegal stock and smuggling of wheat from the district. He said that strict action would be continued across the province to discourage illegal stock and smuggling of wheat. He visited wheat procurement centre Solingin Kharl Hafizabad and checked wheat procurement record, social distancing and provision of different facilities being provided to famers at the centre.
He expressed his satisfaction over procurement process and provision of facilities to farmers at the centre. While giving briefing to the secretary, Deputy Commissioner Hafizabad, Naveed Shahzad Mirza told that district administration had seized 73 thousand bags of illegal stock of wheat in the district while two cases got registered against stockiest.
