Punjab forms committee to resolve issues of transporters

The Punjab government has constituted a committee to address the issues of transporters.

Citizens faced huge inconvenience due to the strike of transporters to protest against the transport ordinance and imposition of heavy fines.

The business community has welcomed the decision to suspend the traffic ordinance and the resolution of transporters’ issues through dialogue.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol, Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, and Vice President Khurram Lodhi said that the business sector and the transport sector are deeply linked, and together they keep the economic wheel moving. Therefore, solving transporters’ problems is a need of the time.

Faheem ur Rehman Saigol said that the transport sector is the backbone of the economy. If this sector faces difficulties because of unnecessary fines, cases, or administrative pressure, it negatively affects the entire trade and industry system. He added that LCCI strongly raised its voice for the rights of the transport community.

He said it is encouraging that the government has shown seriousness by suspending the ordinance and forming a committee consisting of all stakeholders so that issues can be resolved through talks instead of confrontation. He said that from the very beginning, LCCI has believed that durable solutions are only possible through negotiation and mutual understanding.

The LCCI office-bearers said that the Chamber will continue to extend full support through its platform and hope that the committee meetings will move towards positive results. They said that both the transporters and the government must understand each other’s viewpoints and devise a formula that improves the traffic system while also protecting the transport sector from unnecessary burden.

They added that in the current economic situation, it is essential that the movement of goods-carrying vehicles remains smooth. If the transporters’ issues are resolved, trade activities will continue without disruption, which will benefit the national economy.

The LCCI office-bearers expressed confidence that the ongoing talks between the government, transporters, and relevant departments will soon deliver positive results and lead to a permanent solution for the transport sector’s issues, contributing to stability in national trade and industry.
