Punjab constitutes Pneumonia Experts Advisory Committee after disease outbreak

LAHORE – The Punjab Government has constituted a six-member Pneumonia Experts Advisory Committee to devise a strategy after reviewing the outbreak of pneumonia cases and deaths in the province.

As per the notification issued by the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Ayesha Arif will head the committee.

Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr Hafiz Shahid will be the secretary.

The other members include Prof Junaid Rasheed (Children’s Hospital Lahore), Prof Kashif Chishti (Executive Director Children’s Hospital Multan), Prof Tayyaba Khawar Butt (Services Institute of Medical Sciences) and Prof Muhammad Shahid (Lahore General Hospital).

As per the TORs, the committee shall meet frequently to review the data related to pediatric patients suffering from pneumonia, and viral bacterial ARI.

It shall review the trends for infectivity and mortality for such diseases.

It will furnish an advisory regarding the prevention and control of the disease to the Punjab government for necessary action.
