LAHORE – The Punjab government has imposed a ban on devices used for spying and covert recording, issuing a formal notification to enforce the restriction.
The notification said that the ban will remain in effect for 30 days and applies to devices capable of secretly recording photographs, videos and audio.
The restriction covers the use, sale and online trading of gadgets designed for covert surveillance, including glasses fitted with hidden cameras, camera pens and keychains equipped with recording devices. Their sale through shops and online platforms has also been prohibited.
The notification states that covert recording devices pose a threat to citizens’ privacy, sensitive information and the security of sensitive installations.
The provincial government said the ban aims to protect the dignity and privacy of women and children and prevent the misuse of surveillance equipment.
However, laptops, tablets, mobile phones and terminal equipment approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have been exempted from the restriction.
The notification formally establishes the 30-day ban as part of the provincial government’s efforts to address privacy and security concerns associated with covert recording devices.
