ISLAMABAD – The public Wi-Fi networks have now become common in hotels, offices, airports and other public spaces, often provided free of charge.
While they offer convenient internet access, the experts warn that these networks can pose serious security risks.
Open or public Wi-Fi networks typically lack password protection and encryption, making it easier for hackers to intercept sensitive data, including passwords, credit card information and personal files.
Even network owners can monitor the websites users visit and the data they transmit.
In a bid to stay safe, the users should avoid accessing sensitive information such as online banking or confidential work documents while connected to public Wi-Fi.
Turning off file sharing prevents other devices on the network from accessing personal files. Using websites with HTTPS encryption adds another layer of security, and connecting through a VPN (Virtual Private Network) ensures that internet traffic is encrypted and largely hidden from hackers or network owners.
By taking these precautions, the users can safely use public Wi-Fi while protecting their personal information from cyber threats.
