Farrukh says CJP wins hearts of people

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders termed the Supreme Court’s (SC) historic verdict declaring Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to delay the Punjab elections as “void ab initio”, a ‘watershed moment’ and urged all the PTI leaders and supporters to start planning to re-elect Imran Khan in the office of prime minister.

Talking to media persons PTI Central Secretary Information Farrukh Habib reacted that Chief Jus-tice Umar Atta Bandial has won the hearts of the people by establishing the supremacy of the Consti-tution regarding elections and burying Justice Mu-nir’s theory of necessity. He said that now the gov-ernment has to provide Rs 20 billion by April 10, hoping that the polls would now be held in Punjab on May 14. He said: “Today, the apex court has buried the doctrine of necessity, restored the sanc-tity of the Constitution and buried all those con-spiratorial forces that were creating hurdles in the way of democracy and a democratic and constitu-tional system in this country.” He went on to say that the nation was proud that those who make deci-sions based on the Constitution and conscience are still alive today.

He stated that the order has given the nation reassurance that there were still some people that do not get influenced or terrified by the threats, adding that “the difference between democ-ratic, constitutional forces and non-democratic, unconstitutional forces has become clear today”. He urged the Punjab government to implement the SC order and hold elections in Punjab, since the SC had removed all the reservations of the ECP, so it should hold elections without fearing anyone now. PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, in his reaction to the historic decision, called Justice Umar Ata Bandial as a chief justice of the people.

“Very few people have the privilege to get the amount of respect that has come towards Justice Umar Ata Bandial and his fellow judges today,” he said. He stated that the apex court’s verdict was the decision for the rights of each Pakistani citizen.

Fawad said that Justice Bandial CJP has become people’s Chief Justice today, because he stood tall against immense pressure by rejecting all illegal demands and proved a man of substance.

PTI Senior Vice President Dr. Shireen Mazari re-acted that the constitution stood reaffirmed by the SC. “The election schedule, with a minor adjust-ment for 13 days wasted by the ECP, stands valid,” she added. She went on to day that the ECP’s deci-sion on March 22 to delay the Punjab elections had no basis in the constitution and the law,” and that the ECP’s “shenanigans stand exposed yet again”.

Reacting to the SC’s verdict, PTI senior leader Hammad Azhar said that the top court restored the Constitution and saved the democracy. He said that no other decision was possible while keeping within the line of law and the Constitution. He called on the coalition partners to be a part of the democratic process, saying that the political parties don’t quit the field.
