The federal government in order to meet its snowballing expenditure has issued new currency notes worth Rs171.29 billion in the first two weeks of February 202, it was learnt on Sunday.

The value of the currency notes in circulation has been exceeded to over Rs68.49 trillion while the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has so far printed more than Rs2000 billion currency notes since it came into power.

Last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had put on fast track the printing of the currency notes alerting the printing press to meet the demand of cash as the country went into a lockdown in March 2020.

In the first two weeks of February 2021, the government had got printed Rs12.25 billion every day.

The PTI government if the first half of its five-year tenure had got printed Rs2001,53 billion which were 106 percent more than what the last PML-N government had got printed in the first half of its tenure and 268 percent more than the last PPP government’s first half.—INP
