ISLAMABAD – Senior leaders of the key opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were summoned in wake of a controversial post shared on Imran Khan’s X account about the 1971 civil war.

Khan’s party, while being at odds with military establishment and ruling alliance, distanced itself from the controversial post, saying it was not aimed at the army but should be seen in a political context. Party leader even clarified that the comparison with 1971 was political, not targeting the army.

Despite the clarification, FIA called on Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub, and party spokesperson Raoof Hasan for allegedly misusing Imran Khan’s X account to spread incendiary content against institutions.

Amid the new controversy, a team of Federal Investigation Agency visited Adiala Jail to grill Imran Khan, but PTI founding chief refused to meet them without his legal team.

In an interview, Hasan stated they would comply with the summons and clarify that the video content was from the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report, not targeting any institution. He emphasized the party’s stance that past commission reports should be published for public knowledge and criticized the FIA’s inquiry basis, but confirmed they would follow legal procedures.

Raoof Hasan also noted that Khan could not see his X account content due to lack of facilities in Adiala Jail, suggesting someone might have discussed it conceptually with him. He reiterated that the post was not an attack on the military but a political comparison with the current ruling class.
