ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Tuesday issued an advisory warning mobile users about WhatsApp accounts linked with inactive, blocked, or unregistered SIM cards, urging them to ensure timely verification and updating of their mobile numbers.
In its statement shared on social media, the regulator said that digital identity is the responsibility of each user and advised citizens to regularly check whether their WhatsApp accounts are connected to active and properly registered SIM cards.
The PTA cautioned that WhatsApp accounts associated with inactive, deactivated, blocked, or unregistered SIMs may become inaccessible in the future if corrective steps are not taken in time.
It stressed that users should ensure their WhatsApp accounts, chats, contacts, and other data remain secured by linking them only with active and verified SIM cards registered in their own names.
The authority further advised users to immediately transfer their WhatsApp accounts to an active SIM in case their current number has been deactivated or is no longer in use.
According to the advisory, the individuals may visit the nearest franchise or customer service centre for biometric verification and SIM revalidation where necessary to avoid disruption in services.
PTA also urged users not to wait for unexpected logouts or service interruptions, making it clear that a mobile number represents a user’s digital identity in the modern communication ecosystem and must remain valid and registered to ensure uninterrupted access to messaging services.
