PSL 2024: Multan Sultans beat Islamabad United by five wickets

MULTAN – Multan Sultans beat Islamabad United by five wickets in the fifth Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 match at picturesque Multan Cricket Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Chasing 145 runs target for victory, Sultans crossed the finishing line on the penultimate ball of the match with five wickets in hand. Reeza Hendricks was the top scorer with 58 runs followed by Mohammad Rizwan who made 43 runs. Iftikhar Ahmed made an unbeaten 18 runs to ensure the team crossed the finishing line. Naseem Shah bagged two wickets while Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Tymal Mills took one wicket each. Mohammad Ali was named player of the match.

After being asked to bat first by Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan, Islamabad United lost both the openers, Alex Hales and Colin Munro, during the powerplay with just 14 runs on the board. Agha Salman (52) and Jordan Cox (41) provided some stability to the innings with 68 runs partnership. Good bowling on a slow track kept the run rate in check. United lost the last five wickets with the addition of just four runs during the last two overs and the innings ended at 144.

Mohammad Ali and Abbas Afridi bagged three wickets each, Usama Mir got two and David Willey got one wicket.
