PSL 2024, Match 20: Islamabad United beat Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs

RAWALPINDI – Islamabad United beat Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs in the 20th Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Monday evening.

Chasing a challenging 197-run target for victory, Zalmi lost five wickets in the powerplay with just 18 runs on the board. Paul Walter and Aamer Jamal put on 107 runs partnership for the sixth wicket to give some respectability to the team score. United lost four wickets during the last five overs to end up at 167/9. Aamer Jamal was the top scorer with 87 runs followed by Paul Walter who made 33. Tom-Kohler Cadmore made 12 runs. No other batter could enter the double figures and Zalmi lost the game by 29 runs. Shadab Khan bagged three wickets, Hunain Shah and Ruma Raees two each while Naseem Shah took one wicket. Shadab Khan was named player of the match for his all-round performance.

After being asked to bat first by Zalmi skipper Babar Azam, United managed to reach 196/4 despite losing the key wicket of Alex Hales on the first ball of the innings. Skipper Shadab Khan was the top scorer with 80 runs followed by Agha Salman who made 37. Azam Khan made 29 runs, Jordan Cox 26 and Colin Munro 15 runs. Saim Ayub bagged two wickets while Luke Wood and Salman Irshad took one wicket each.
