WASHINGTON – U.S. Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, appeared before the House of Representatives Committee, where he briefed them on matters concerning Pakistan and Afghanistan.
During his appearance before the House Committee, Donald Lu stated that the focus is on supporting democracy and human rights in Pakistan, and President Joe Biden sought $101 million in aid for Pakistan.
Assistant Secretary Donald Lu further informed the committee that the aid would be provided to Pakistan to help in the fight against terrorism, economic reforms and debt assistance.
The funds would help Pakistan stabilize its economy.
Donald Lu expressed concern about the situation of women and minority groups in Afghanistan, saying that the relations with the Taliban government could not normalize until the rights of Afghans are respected and all American citizens are released by the Taliban government.
