President Alvi highlights importance of disease prevention

President Dr. Arif Alvi praised the establishment of a blood bank at Indus Hospital and its recent accreditation from the Association for Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB). Speaking at the accreditation celebration ceremony, he emphasized the significance of preventive measures to contain diseases in the country, particularly through safe blood transfusion.

Acknowledging the multiple health challenges faced by the people, including malnutrition, obesity, mental health, and breast cancer, President Alvi stressed the shortage of safe blood for patients. He called upon donors to contribute their efforts to address this crucial need and modify the cultural reluctance towards organ donation. President Alvi expressed confidence in the country’s potential for growth and encouraged doctors and health professionals to actively participate in politics for the betterment of the healthcare system.

He lauded the nation’s performance during the COVID-19 pandemic and the successful Polio eradication efforts, highlighting the importance of data collection and information dissemination to tackle challenges effectively. Highlighting the issue of out-of-school children, he said that two crore and 62 thousand children, which came to 44 per cent, were not going to school. He further said that they were working on a project to use mosques for education purposes with the help of Ulemas.

President of the Indus Hospital and Health Network Dr Abdul Bari Khan said that the hospital had achieved a milestone and it was celebrating the (AABB) accreditation.

He said that the Indus hospital was the first hospital in the country, to gain the accreditation of such a level. on the occasion, the President was briefed about the Indus Hospital’s network in the country in detail.

He was also informed that three million patients had been provided with safe blood so far. The President Dr Arif Alvi also visited the different sections of the Blood Transfusion Services and appreciated the management and philanthropists.
