Syed Hasan Murtaza, the General Secretary of Pakistan People’s Party Central Punjab, urged all political parties to prioritize electoral reforms, citing recurring allegations of election rigging leading to the emergence of “puppet” leaders every decade. In a press conference held on Sunday, he emphasized the need to block all avenues of election fraud to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
Addressing concerns over corruption in judicial matters, he demanded the formation of a parliamentary commission to prevent interference, asserting that such actions are essential to silence voices of electoral theft and uphold democratic principles. Regarding recent electoral setbacks, Murtaza announced the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the defeat in NA-127, promising to publish a white paper on the 2024 elections. He expressed optimism about the partys increased vote bank and discussed various party matters, extending congratulations to President Asif Ali Zardari on his re-election and Easter greetings to the Christian community. Furthermore, Murtaza highlighted the PPPs concerns over terrorism and economic challenges, condemning extremist acts and advocating for peace. He called for relief measures for farmers and increased assistance for students and youth, emphasizing the partys commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promises. Responding to media inquiries, Murtaza welcomed the Ramazan package but raised reservations about the distribution process, stressing the importance of impartiality and transparency in aid distribution. He reaffirmed the partys stance on Senate elections, vowing to support party candidates and secure a fair representation in the Senate. He also hinted at organizational changes in Punjab, indicating possible appointments of Jiyala governors and the construction of a new stadium in the name of Bhutto. He concluded by reaffirming the partys dedication to political struggle and the legacy of its respected martyrs.
