A dialogue session chaired by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh President NisarKhuhro was held in the Sindh Assembly committee room, organized by the Human Rights Cell. Attended by human rights representatives, lawyers, and civil society, the session focused on constitutional amendments and judicial reforms, with participants declaring the establishment of a constitutional court as essential for the country. NisarKhuhro emphasized that “If a Federal Shariat Court can be established, there should be no objection to forming a constitutional court.

Judicial reforms are crucial under the current circumstances, and the creation of a constitutional court is necessary to reduce the Supreme Court’s case load and ensure swift resolution of constitutional matters.” He further stressed that judicial reforms, parliamentary supremacy, and constitutional amendments are part of PPP’s manifesto, with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari already consulting with other political parties to build consensus on the issue. During the session, MNA Nafisa Shah stated, “To make the judiciary impartial and maintain a balance of power, the formation of a constitutional court is essential.

In the past, the judiciary has upheld the doctrine of necessity, allowing dictators to distort the constitution, leading to political instability.”

Lawyers and civil society also supported the establishment of the constitutional court, highlighting that it would facilitate the swift and fair resolution of constitutional disputes while promoting a better balance of power between the parliament, judiciary, and executive.
