ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has called for fresh polling under the supervision of the military at polling stations affected by alleged irregularities during the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf alleged that PPP polling agents were forcibly removed from several polling stations and claimed there were serious complaints of armed individuals influencing the electoral process and casting fraudulent votes.
He urged the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission to immediately withhold the results from the disputed polling stations in LA-12 and order an investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Ashraf further demanded that re-polling at the affected polling stations be conducted under military supervision to ensure transparency and fairness.
He said free and fair elections are a fundamental democratic right of every voter and candidate, adding that any attempt to undermine the public mandate would not be accepted.
The former prime minister also called on the Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to ensure a level playing field for all candidates and to withhold the final result of the constituency until the re-polling process is completed.
