Waqar Mehdi, the General Secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party’s Sindh chapter, has strongly denounced the unannounced gas closures in various parts of Sindh, including Karachi, coinciding with the beginning of Ramadan. Mehdi attributes this inconvenience to the perceived incompetence of the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) management and has called upon Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the relevant federal minister to promptly intervene and address the situation.
Expressing concern over the immediate impact on citizens, Mehdi emphasized the critical need for action against those responsible for the disruptions. He stressed the urgency of ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to the people of Sindh, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, when access to cooking facilities for Sehri and Iftar is essential.
Highlighting the distress faced by citizens due to gas shortages during Sehri and Iftar hours, Mehdi criticized the SSGCL administration’s assurances, which have failed to materialize into tangible solutions for the affected communities. Consequently, citizens have been compelled to purchase food items at inflated prices from the market to fulfill their Sehri and Iftar needs.
Mehdi urged Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the relevant federal minister to take immediate action to rectify the incompetence demonstrated by SSGCL and ensure uninterrupted gas supply for the duration of Ramadan. He cautioned that failure to address this critical issue promptly could further exacerbate public frustration, with the responsibility for ensuing consequences squarely resting on the management of SSGCL.
