The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) marked the victory on the seat of chairman senate after its nominated candidate former Prime Minister Syed YousafRazaGillani notched the slot without any opposition. The PPP termed its achievement as “politics of reconciliation”.
The PPP, after celebrating the victory on top slot in the Senate, is now focused on governorship in all four provinces as per the agreed formula. Asif Ali Zardari had already been elected for the second time as president—the top constitutional post in the country.
“The politics of reconciliation has once again been successful in the Senate elections,” said Raja Pervez Ashraf, the PPP Central Punjab President on Tuesday.
Raja congratulated Syed YousafRazaGilani and Syedal Khan Nasir over their unopposed victories. In his congratulatory message, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the refusal to accept the Senate elections by their ideological opponents is another defeat for them.
He stated that all those who boycotted the elections in the pretext of boycott did not want democratic continuity in the country. The former National Assembly speaker said Pakistan could not afford the politics of modern-day chaos, disorder, and dispersion.“God wills, in the future, the government will continue to uphold the constitutional shelter on all fronts,” said Raja Pervez Ashraf.
He also stated that the splendid victory is the result of the positive policies of the government alliance. The decisions regarding new governors in all four provinces, he said, would also be made according to the agreed formula.
Ali HaiderGillani, the PPP’s parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly, also congratulated Syed YousafRazaGilani and Syedal Khan Nasir on their uncontested election as Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate. Ali HaiderGillani said the election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman was necessary under Article 60 of the Constitution. In his congratulatory message, he said that for the first time in the country’s history, a large number of senators were elected unanimously through mutual understanding and consensus.
Due to the personal enmity of the PTI government and its arrogance, Senate elections could not be held there.Ali HaiderGilani further said that demanding a re-election from those who violated court orders is not legitimate, and like the central leadership of the PPP, they would fully support the coalition government in Punjab.
