Poverty and hunger in Pakistan is being deliberately increased instead of going for real poverty alleviation, said Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor here Thursday on the occasion of the International Poverty Eradication Day.
He said the sitting regime came to power with a slogan of ending poverty but it increased poverty and hunger to unprecedented level by deprecating Pakistan rupee by almost 35percent. He said this imprudent step taken on the behest of the international lending institutions like IMF increased the prices of daily use commodities by 35 percent and at the same time decreased real wages of workers by 35 percent. He said this double blow pushed millions of more people beneath poverty line.
He sadly this cruel step was taken by the PTI government that has come to Pakistan with a slogan of a Naya Pakistan. He said this may be a Naya Pakistan but it also is poorer and hungrier Pakistan. He said the dreams of millions of voters of PTI have already shattered and hopelessness is also rising amongst general public.
Altaf Shakoor said even prices of local vegetables that were available at Rs20 to Rs30 per kg in the PMLN government of Mian Nawaz Sharif are now being sold at more than Rs100 per kilogram.
