Ambassador Frederico encourages Pakistani youth to adopt critical thinking to overcome challenges in life
The Embassy of Portugal on Saturday organized a unique sports event involving the students—young boys and girls to participate in the first-ever Portugal-Pakistan Chess Tournament.
The tournament aimed to promote cultural ties through sports diplomacy and concluded the celebrations in Pakistan of the National Day of Portugal, also marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between Portugal and Pakistan.
The event was one-of-a-kind organized according to the Swiss system of five rounds and one could see a great many aspiring chess champions participating in the different rounds held at Serena Hotel.
Organized in collaboration with the Chess Federation of Pakistan and Serena Hotels it was a well-attended event and not only the young players took part in it but senior and seasoned chess players like Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of Turkmenistan Mr Atadjan Movlamov and Dean of the African Countries, Moroccan ambassador Mohamed Karmoune played chess and gave each other tough time.
Ambassador Da Silva also played chess with many a young Pakistani player and motivated them to excel in this game. Chess, he said was very important for mental development and had a key role in developing the critical thinking of the growing up minds.
Its role in fostering critical thinking, strategic depth, mental audacity, and unique challenges prepares the players for bigger and more complex challenges. Boys and the girls who play chess can overcome the problems they are faced with by adopting a critical thinking and unique strategy.
One cannot help praising e the players’ foresight, their ability to adapt, and the beauty of intricate tactical maneuvers.
The Portugal ambassador expressed gratitude to the co-organizers for making this unique event a huge success. A diverse group of 40 chess players, including seasoned professionals and emerging talents of all ages, in a friendly yet intellectually stimulating competition participated. It also served as a platform for fostering mutual understanding, dialogue, and people-to-people connectivity through the shared appreciation of strategic thinking and personality dynamics.
Besides the inscribed players, the venue was freely accessible to anyone from official entities, diplomatic corps and general public, including families, who were interested in enjoying the unique atmosphere of the celebration of the universal Chess game magic.
