One killed several injured as two banks looted by armed motorcyclist in Sectors G-9/4 and G-14
Three bank robberies in two days have left the residents of Islamabad at the mercy of the robbers forcing them to wonder whether the police and the security agencies are aware of their primary duty i.e. protection of the citizens.
People are particularly shocked at two robberies committed on Tuesday and in the both the robber(s) used the similar pattern….a motorcyclist wearing a helmet and touting a gun.
This ‘Terminator-2’ like robberies both in Sector G-9/4 Peshawar Mor and G-14 have left the police clueless as the bike rider has left little evidence behind.
In the G-9/4 robbery one life was also lost as the robber resorted to indiscriminate firing while taking a way the money. According to details an armed robber ambushed a cash van outside the National Bank branch in Sector G-9/4.
The robber wearing helmet to avoid recognition opened fire on the security team of a cash van when they were transferring the cash and swiftly took away the bag of cash before fleeing the scene.
In the random firing not only the security guard was injured, three employees of the nearby food outlet ‘Shinwari’ Restaurant were also injured and one of them, Mir Haider, succumbed to his injuries. The rest of the injured were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Soon after the G-9/4 incident, another bank robbery took place in Sector G-14 and in the same fashion a armed motorcyclist made away with the cash from the security van parked outside a bank. In the firing incident three personnel of the private security agency were injured.
A day earlier on Monday, an armed robbery was attempted in in Sector G-9/3 when a robber approached a cash van outside a private bank and opened fire on guards carrying cash bags, but the guards managed to stop the theft.
With these series of coordinated robberies, Islamabad authorities have stepped up security and are using the Safe City surveillance system to track down those responsible. After the news of the incidents of robbery and murder spread and the people started panicking .The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi along with senior police officials approached the site of the robbery and assured that the culprits would be apprehended. We are using latest technologies, safe city cameras, CCTV footage and recording statements of the eye witnesses to clearly identify the robbers and looking for evidence that could lead to the culprits, said a senior police official while talking to Pakistan Observer and assured the culprits would be apprehended soon.
