Last night, amidst the fragrant blossoms of apple and apricot orchards, a poetry session named “Manrey Gul” (meaning apple flower) illuminated the serene ambiance of Government Degree College Wana in Lower South Waziristan district. Organized by the Wana Pashto Poetry Society, the event drew poets and writers from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, converging to celebrate the beauty of poetry and culture.
Amin Jan Wazir, President of the Wana Pashto Poetry Society, emphasized the event’s message of peace and love, echoing the sentiments of the participating poets and writers. He expressed that such gatherings, especially held at night, serve as a testament to the region’s peaceful and harmonious essence, contrary to prevailing stereotypes.
The poetry session, a tradition upheld for over two decades by the Wana Pashto Poetry Society, coincides with the blossoming of apple and apricot trees, infusing the surroundings with their sweet scents. This natural backdrop lends a poetic aura to the event, enhancing the experience for both participants and audience alike.
Notable poet Umar Shah Koti, hailed as the driving force behind the poetry session, underscored the role of poets in articulating nationalist sentiments through their verses. His words resonated with attendees, who showered the poets with applause for their humorous and insightful compositions.
