The Pakistan Muslim League-N has speeded up preparation for the fast approaching general elections as it wrapped its inaugural session of the parliamentary board to decide candidates from Sargodha Division on Saturday.

The session, presided over by PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and party President Shehbaz Sharif, drew insights from key party figures including PML-N Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and Chairman Election Cell Senator Ishaq Dar. It also charted out crucial strategies for the elections.

Party’s General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal, Punjab chapter President Rana Sanaullah, and Divisional Coordinator Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry were also actively engaged in the deliberations.

Reflecting on the extensive discussions, Nawaz Sharif remarked, “Our party remains committed to a transparent and robust candidate selection process. The list of potential candidates will reflect the diversity and strength of our party”.

Shehbaz Sharif, expressing optimism, said, “The rigorous interviews and shortlisting process aim to identify candidates who resonate with the aspirations of the people. We are focused on presenting a dynamic and capable team to the electorate,”.

The parliamentary board requested a comprehensive list of 105 potential candidates from all parliamentary parties, specifically for the four districts within the Sargodha division.

“The interviews of the candidates of total 34 constituencies of Sargodha Division were conducted,” said the sources, adding that 38 candidates appeared for interviews of 11 seats of the National Assembly while 67 candidates were there for 23 provincial assembly seats.

After the parliamentary board meeting, Ahsan Iqbal, the party’s secretary general, while talking to the reporters said, “The board conducted interviews of more than 100 candidates of Sargodha Division and the candidates presented their credentials before the board.”

He said they are hopeful that they would enter the political arena with the right candidates.

“On Monday, the candidates of Rawalpindi will be interviewed,” said Ahsan Iqbal, adding that the interviews of the candidates from Hazara would be conducted on Tuesday while the candidates from Balochistan would be interviewed on Wednesday.

He claimed that they would ensure merit in this process.

Rana Sanaullah who was also with Ahsan Iqbal also said, “Nawaz Sharif personally interviewed every single candidate from Sargodha Division. It was a seven hours long session and majority decisions were made with unity,”.
