Foreign medical graduates meet registrar
A meeting of foreign medical graduates was held with Registrar PM&DC regarding the current and long-term issues of foreign graduates at its Secretariat, Islamabad yesterday.
The Registrar replied in detail to the queries and questions of the foreign graduates.
He said after the promulgation of PM&DC Act 2022 (notified 13th January 2023), PM&DC is trying hard to facilitate the medical and dental students and doctors across the country. It is taking NEB examination conducting as a top priority to address the anxiety of students.
Registrar said all mandatory arrangements are in process and by next week the portal for the registration will be opened for registration to appear in NEB exam. All relevant updates in this regard shall be updated on PM&DC website from time to time.
The graduates who have cleared the NEB step 1 and 2 exams before 2020 may send request along with relevant documents for registration of PM&DC and as per PM&DC Act all the foreign students, who have grad for the PM&DC-recognized institutions, shall be issued provisional registration certificates for house job.
Foreign graduates undergo two mandatory verification process, first one is verification of degree from degree awarding institute and second is verification of house job upon completion of house job. Previously verifications were done manually through diplomatic channel, however, now PM&DC verify documentation through emails to minimize the verification time period to as short as possible.
The registrar said he will try to implement one year internship/observership in teaching and non-teaching hospitals for foreign students across Pakistan to complete their university mandatory requirements in their final year of medical studies.
He said all Pakistani institutions are bound to offer paid house job to their own graduates. However, PMDC will request the council to look into the matter for honorary/paid house job be offered to the foreign graduates in different hospitals of Pakistan to save the precious time of these graduates and maintain uniformity.
The syllabus will remain the same unless there are any proposed changes by the Council to facilitate students.
