Pm Shehbaz Directs Financial Assistance For Monsoon Flood Affected Families

LAHORE – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the authorities to provide financial assistance to families affected by recent monsoon rains and floods across the country.

Chairing a meeting on the impact of the recent rains and flooding, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered financial assistance for the families of all those who lost their lives in the floods.

He also directed the government to provide financial support to owners of houses that were either completely or partially destroyed by the rains and floods.

The prime minister instructed the relevant authorities to ensure the early restoration of electricity transmission systems and roads in flood-affected areas.

He directed the concerned federal ministers and secretaries to personally visit affected areas, assess the damage caused by the rains and ensure that rehabilitation work begins without delay.

Shehbaz also called for the acceleration of relief operations and directed authorities to urgently deliver food and other essential relief supplies to areas that had remained inaccessible and had not yet received assistance.

In view of the possibility of further rains and flooding, the prime minister instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management authorities to remain fully prepared for relief and rescue operations.

During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the impact of the 2026 monsoon season and progress made by the provinces and NDMA in relief operations.

The officials said residents of all affected areas had been shifted to safe locations in a timely manner. They added that NDMA and provincial disaster management teams were prepared to assist people in case of further rains and flooding.

According to the briefing, a total of 615 tonnes of relief supplies had so far been dispatched to monsoon-affected areas across the country, with further consignments being arranged.

Rehabilitation of infrastructure is also underway in affected areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The officials said early warning systems were operational in northern areas and had enabled authorities to relocate several residents to safer locations before flooding occurred.

Federal ministers and senior officials, including NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, attended the meeting along with chief secretaries of the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
