PM Shehbaz Directs End to Load-Shedding Exceeding Two Hours

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday ordered authorities to ensure that power outages in any part of the country do not exceed two hours amid growing complaints of electricity load-shedding.

He issued the directive while presiding over a review meeting on the country’s power load management situation.

Officials briefed the meeting that electricity generation had declined due to the prevailing regional situation, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and difficulties in transporting regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), affecting the supply of the fuel required for power generation.

As a result, load management was being implemented to balance electricity demand and supply.

PM Shehbaz called for immediate steps to mitigate disruptions in RLNG supplies, keeping in view the regional situation and future energy requirements. He also instructed authorities to make the best possible use of all available resources to ensure that no locality experiences more than two hours of load-shedding.

Shehbaz further directed power distribution companies (Discos) to establish Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees to address complaints regarding electricity supply and other related issues.

He said the committees should include representatives and become operational within one week.

The meeting was informed that consumers could register electricity-related complaints through helpline 118. After a complaint is lodged, consumers receive a token number along with an estimated timeframe for its resolution.
