LAHORE – The devastating roof collapse at a private tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area claimed the lives of at least 14 children, leaving several others injured in one of the city’s deadliest accidents involving an educational institution.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took immediate notice of the tragedy, ordering provincial ministers to reach the accident site and personally supervise the rescue and relief efforts. She also sought a detailed report on the incident, directing officials to determine the cause of the collapse, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found negligent is brought to justice.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also extended condolences to bereaved families of children who lost their lives in the roof collpase. I am deeply shocked by the tragic incident that occurred near Kuchhwanah Road in Kahna, Bilawal said.
Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan described the incident as deeply alarming, calling it a tragedy that has shaken the nation.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also expressed profound grief over the deaths of the children and their teacher, offering condolences to the affected families and praying that the departed are granted the highest ranks in Jannah while wishing a swift recovery for the injured.
As the rescue operation concluded, attention shifted to the circumstances surrounding the collapse. Police have detained the building owner and the contractor as investigators examine whether alleged negligence and ongoing construction work played a role in the fatal incident.
