ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with the victorious Pakistan U-19 cricket team, who recently triumphed in the U-19 Asia Cup.
The premier announced a reward of Rs10 million for each player in recognition of their outstanding achievement.
He also hosted a luncheon in honor of the young cricketers, congratulating the team and management for their remarkable victory over India. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and several federal ministers also attended the event.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, head coach Shahid Anwar shared insights into the team’s journey, stating that the process began on June 17, 2025, with trials for 70 young players.
From these trials, 30 players were selected to form the final camp, with the goal of winning the trophy and the hearts of cricket fans during the Asia Cup.
Famed cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was part of the meeting, confirmed that the prime minister had announced a reward of Rs10 million for each young player.
He praised the hard work of the players and coaching staff, and noted that the Prime Minister had lauded the team’s efforts. Sarfaraz expressed optimism that this young team would continue to bring home more trophies in the future.
Pakistan U19 Team Captain Farhan Yousaf acknowledged the full support of the management, stating that every player had played a crucial role in the team’s success. He added that the management had urged them to play their natural game and assured them of full support. Farhan also expressed his intention to focus on individual performance in the upcoming World Cup.
Star batsman Sameer Minhas credited a simple plan for their success: to spend time at the wicket and play cricket with confidence. He revealed that there was no pressure in their match against India, and emphasized the importance of putting up a good total on the board, which would place pressure on the opposing team.
